Teen charged with attempted murder of Rocky gran

A TEENAGER has been charged with the attempted murder and rape of an elderly woman in a Rockhampton backyard on Australia Day.

Police arrested the 18-year-old yesterday afternoon following the attack on the 82-year-old grandmother in George Street, Rockhampton.

The suspect was apprehended while walking in Rockhampton's CBD about 1.30pm yesterday.

He was held in custody and will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
