Teen threatens to kill his Mum, burn her house down

A MAGISTRATE has delivered a harrowing message to a teen who was arrested after threatening to kill his own mother.

Sitting in the dock of the Maroochydore Magistrates Court, the 18-year-old boy - who can't be named to protect his victim's identity - stared at the floor and shook his head while details of his offending were read aloud.

The court heard on January 7, the teen broke an order put in place to protect his Mum just a week earlier by harassing her with a series of chilling phone calls which left her "fearful" of her safety.

In the calls, which got progressively more violent, he told her he would "kill her", "smash the windows and burn the place down" if she didn't pick him up from where he was.

The woman recorded the calls, with the last taking place in-front of police after she rang them to come to her home.

The teen was later arrested and granted bail on the condition he not go to his mother's house, but just hours later he returned and was arrested again.

He yesterdaypleaded guilty to single counts of contravention of a police protection notice and breach of bail.

His lawyer told the court the teen had returned to pick up some clothes and was intoxicated at the time.

He further plans to live with his grandmother or girlfriend when he is released.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin told the teen he hoped he felt "some shame" over his actions, which were made all the more abhorrent given his victim was his mother.

"The saddest domestic violence of all is someone committing domestic violence against their mother," Mr McLaughlin said.

"There's no one who will love you like your mother.

"If there's one person in the world you should stand up for, it's her."

The teen was sentenced to six months probation with no convictions recorded and the domestic violence order was extended to a period of five years.
