Teen will be sadly missed

THE pain of losing his little brother is still raw for Owen Matthews.

Mr Matthews said he was still trying to accept the fact that Brandon has been taken from the family after a stabbing in Ipswich on Saturday.

"I'm just shocked," he said. The tight-knit family have been rocked by the news of Brandon's death.

"We were really close," Mr Matthews said.

Mr Matthews said he saw his brother alive for the last time over the Christmas period.

He said he was certain many Gladstone residents would miss the fun-loving teenager.

"He was a cheeky, little, funny kid," he said.

Brandon recently moved from Gladstone to Ipswich, Mr Matthews said, to live with his aunty.

He leaves behind fiancé Clara Phung Tiêu Nguyen who Mr Matthews said was distraught and unable to come to terms with Brandon's death.

"She's been here with us.

"We still can't really talk to her you can't make out what she is saying," Mr Matthews said.

Two young Ipswich men have faced court charged with murder in relation to the stabbing, and Mr Matthews said it is believed that Brandon and the alleged attacker had known each other.

However, the court case was the last thing on his mind as he struggled to come to grips with the thought of never seeing his brother again.

The family, who have gathered in Ipswich, were expecting to be able to see the body yesterday after delays meant they were not able to do so on Monday.

They also visited the street where Brandon died, marking the scene with emotional tributes which included photos, wreaths and flowers.
