Teens accused of attack on paramedics
POLICE say a life could have been put at risk by two teenage boys accused of assaulting two paramedics trying to reach a man reported unconscious in a Cairns park.
The male and female paramedics were responding to a call for assistance in Mooroobool on Sunday morning when it is alleged they were confronted by the teens, aged 15 and 16, who allegedly threatened them and a nearby council worker with scissors.
The pair have both been charged with several offences - serious assault of a public officer and serious assault of police respectively.
Cairns police Senior Constable Russell Parker said the incident showed a "complete lack of respect" for emergency services which could have had dire consequences.
"For these two to challenge the ambulance officers, essentially it could have put this man's life at risk because their response to him was delayed."
