Teens' hopes on British boy band
HANGING a hand-painted 12 metre long sign from the Rockhampton Fitzroy Bridge proves just how much Jaymie-Lee Kirkwood and Brittaney Burkhardt love One Direction.
The British boy band is causing mass hysteria before their Australian tour next month and the two Rockhampton State High School students are right in the middle of the action.
In conjunction with the tour, the radio show Hot 30 Count Down is running a competition for hardcore fans to make a "shrine" to show how much they love the band, with the winner joining them in an exclusive rooftop performance and the opportunity to meet the entire band.
The bridge banner was the girls' attempt to win a place at the rooftop performance.
Instead of making their bedrooms into a shrine, the girls said they chose to make Rockhampton the shrine and if you were very quick, you might have seen their banner hanging from the bridge across the Fitzroy River, late Sunday afternoon.
It took Jaymie and Brittaney a couple of days to paint the sign, also calling on family and friends to help them hang it, to enable photos to be taken.
"We are so excited to have managed to get tickets and we can't wait to be there watching them perform," Jaymie said.
"It would be unbelievable if we won the 'shrine' competition and could actually get to meet them as well," Brittaney added.
While the band's concert tickets sold out in a few minutes, the two teens managed to snap up theirs and are ecstatic about seeing them perform in Brisbane on April 18.
Entries of shrine photos can be viewed on the Hot 30 Count down web page at www.seafm.com.au/meet-one-direction.
