Tegan keeps glamour alive in Rockhampton
SEEING tears of joy in her client's eyes is the most rewarding thing Tegan Von Allmen gets out of her job.
The owner of Rockhampton's Atomic Beauty Parlour in Kent St, specialises in vintage and pin-up hair styling and make-up, as well as selling vintage clothes from the era.
"I've always been passionate about that style and I've always felt different, I didn't really like any of the fashion that Rocky offered," Tegan said.
"I love to dress alternatively and I've been doing it for seven years before opening the store. Lisa from Vintage Bettie helped me out with getting it set up before she relocated to Brisbane."
Offering a one-stop shop for women who want to feel beautiful no matter their size or shape, Tegan said every hairstyle she did or piece of clothing she sold was something close to her heart.
"One of my regulars was pulled up walking through Woolworths and told how beautiful she looked, and that they wanted to look like her," she said.
"My job is so rewarding like that, it's a lifestyle, and I wear clothes that make me feel comfortable and liberated."
Hosting workshops to educate women on how to get the vintage look themselves or just dressing up for a day out; Tegan said she and other women in Central Queensland always tried to embrace their love for the style.
"Sometimes we'll dress up and have a picnic or a high tea, or play mini-golf, and it's just about feeling empowered and confident.''
Tegan said when it came to fashion, more was better than less.
"There's still some mystery without having every part of your body showing," she said.
