Tensions boil over in The Block mentoring session

AFTER delivering an unfinished room on Sunday, there were more dramas for Darren and Deanne Jolly on The Block Triple Threat last night.

The couple is the first team in the show's 10 seasons to choose not to present a finished room.

After deciding to move their kitchen Dea and Darren had dramas with the plumbing for their bathroom on the floor above impacting the ceiling height of their dining room.

As the lowest scoring team of the week they won a mentoring session with judge Shaynna Blaze, whose scoring and critiques frustrated Dea during the previous Glasshouse season.

Blaze spent a day working with engineers, plumbers and the show's architect to try to solve the low ceiling height issue, dubbed "ceiling gate".

Site foreman Keith Schleiger called it "by far the biggest drama on The Block".

The couple's ceiling heights must meet regulations if they are to sell their renovated apartment at auction.

But rather than Dea and Shaynna butting heads, it was former AFL player Darren who went on the defensive after Keith and his assistant Dan cut the existing pipes without consulting him.

"Here I was offering him a solution on a platter and all he could look for someone else to blame," Shaynna said.

"This has taken a lot of time to work out and it's the only solution."

The solution involved pulling down their entire dining room ceiling, relaying lower-profile plumbing for their bathroom and getting rid of their planned butler's pantry.

"Standing in that room I didn't feel the love," Shaynna said.

Last night's episode ended with Darren taking a sledgehammer to the walls and ceiling of the dining room.
