The Block: Where are they now?

THIS year's batch of exhausted contestants are approaching the finish line of season 13 of The Block, having worked tirelessly for 12 weeks on renovating their five massive Elsternwick houses.

It's a huge undertaking - but one that can pay handsomely, if we look at some of the most memorable contestants from previous seasons of the show. Where are The Block's biggest couples now?

GAV & WAZ - Season 1

We'll forever be able to hear the distant honk of Waz's laugh, despite it being almost 14 years since the loveable gay couple graced our screens. Speaking to The Interiors Addict in 2013, Gavin said: "We were selected for The Block in 2003 and it literally changed our lives forever".

Straight after the show was finished, the two went on to start their business Designer Boys and spent years styling over 750 properties for sale in just three years. In 2007, their business took a turn into the art realm and they now produce wholesale artworks for interior designers, architects, hotels and resorts, developers and specialty retailers; as well as continuing to provide an interior styling service.

Most recently in 2016, the duo bought a $2.7 million home just outside of Noosa. "We've bought and sold in Sydney and they've been beautiful apartments, but for some reason I wasn't exactly happy there," Gav told Daily Mail Australia. "As soon as we walked through the door, we thought, 'oh my God, I think we've found home'."

JOSH & JENNA - Season 4 and All Stars

Who could forget the couple that became engaged on auction day? It's been more than five years since Josh got down on one knee and these two have come such a long way. Jenna went on to study interior design and decoration, founding Bicker Design in 2011 with Josh by her side and then they launched Design School in 2016. The couple welcomed a baby girl named Freddie in June.

SHANNON & SIMON - Glasshouse

Shannon regularly dishes out solid renovation advice on Inside Out and runs his own business, Vos Creative. He is also the proud Dad to little boy named Dusty. He and his brother Simon are also ambassadors and bathroom experts for Beaumont Tiles.

PHIL & AMITY - Season 1 and All Stars

Having appeared in the very first season of The Block, Phil and Amity returned to the show ten years later (with zero renovating in between) to take out the All Stars competition.

Following their second stint in 2013, the couple kept their momentum going this time and built their own dream home in early 2016. Amity describes the home as, "Hamptons meets Edwardian meets Queenslander weatherboard," and the couple documented the entire process on their website Doing Our Block.

MICHAEL & CARLENE - Glasshouse

Australia's hearts collectively broke as Michael and Carlene profited only $10,000 for their efforts on The Block Glasshouse. And when they returned for spin-off Reno Rumble, a comeback was taken off the cards when they were the first team eliminated.

But that hasn't kept the couple down - they've since launched their business Cedar & Seude, completed their own home renovation and renovated a caravan (which you really need to see to believe).

DEANNE & DARREN - Glasshouse and Triple Threat

$10k profit for take one, $900k profit for take two. Dee and Darren had plenty of ups and downs during both their runs on The Block, but finished on a high with a record-breaking auction.

Soon after, they purchased a worker's cottage in Kew and spent 11 months working their renovation magic. The results were so good, we couldn't help but put them on the cover of Inside Out (take a full tour of their home here).

Often referred to as "the double d's" on the show, it seemed only fitting that they would also use their interior design and building skills to launch their own business; D + D Home.

The Block's Darren and Deanne Jolly won big, taking home more than $900,000 in 2015.

BRAD & LARA - Season 5 (and Brad again for Fans vs Faves)

After winning a total of $600k on The Block in 2012, Brad and Lara lived out a pipedream and bought a pub. They purchased what was then the Maryville Tavern in Newcastle and after a mammoth eight month renovation, reopened it in September 2016 as 529 The Terrace. The couple also welcomed their first child, Harry, in February 2016.

SOPHIE & DALE - Season 5 (and Dale again in Season 6 and Fans vs Faves)

Dale and Sophie came in fourth at auction in season 5 but still walked away with over $300k. Dale was a landscaper prior to his first stint on The Block and continues to run his business, d.vine scapes.

His popularity with fans has also led him to become a presenter on TV show ManSpace and an ambassador for CAT Australia.

Sophie has also found success, launching Vines of The Wild in 2015, an online store that collaborates with Australian designers to produce natural products for children.

The pair welcomed baby boy Shepherd in October 2016, joining big brother Van as their pride and joy.

DAN & DANI - Season 5 and All Stars

In 2015 Dan switched from contestant to rule enforcer when he debuted as Keith's right hand man on The Block. During the same year, he and girlfriend Dani finished a two-year renovation of a house in Seddon, Victoria; details of which can be found on Dani's online shop and blog, Basic Habitat.

Soon after their renovation, the couple launched their design business, Red Door Project. Dani is also continuing an on-screen role as a host on Healthy Homes TV.

ALISA & LYSANDRA - Sky High and Fans vs Favourites

The twin cops fought like only sisters can in nearly every episode, but were a force to be reckoned with, given the title of "bathroom queens" by the judges.

Following their renovation success (coming first and second respectively), they're yet to return to the force, instead running their own online store, stocking everything from rugs to artworks and wall panels.

Alisa also welcomed a new baby boy (Dash) to join brother Nate in January 2016. Take a look inside the beautiful nursery and kid's bedroom she designed for her boys.

KYAL & KARA - Fans vs Favourites

The super K's were given their nickname after winning so many challenges and room reveals, but ended up third on auction day. Soon after they were itching to renovate again and bought a property in Toowoon Bay.

They documented the year long renovation process over ten episodes on their website. Just a month after their final episode, they welcomed their first child, baby boy Ziya Christopher.
