HIS Warwick visit may have come and "scone", but the grin on Tony Abbott's face showed how sweet the current ALP jam is for the LNP leader.

While Labor was talking a leadership ballot yesterday morning, Mr Abbott was en route to the Rose City to officially open the Grove Juice Factory at the Axis Industrial Estate. But it was K-Rudd's power play that had people talking and national media chomping at the bit.

Everyone may have been thinking about it, but Mr Abbott was not talking about Labor's leadership debacle going on in Canberra - while he was addressing the crowd gathered at the juice factory.

Even so, he had the open support of Grove Juice's Dick Estens who blasted the ALP and proclaimed Mr Abbott would be the next prime minister.

But Mr Abbott didn't remain tight-lipped for long - clearly basking in the ongoing "spectacle" of the ALP's power plays he took the opportunity to describe the party as a "shambles" in a media conference in the back office of the factory.

He said Australia "deserved better" and was "still a great country" but refused to give "political commentary" when asked if he thought Kevin Rudd would be the ALP's leader on Monday.

"Whatever happens Monday or next week it will be the faceless men pulling the strings," he said.

He said the only way to have a government without "dodgy backdoor deals" was to call an election.

But pressed as to why he would not call a vote of no confidence, Mr Abbott said it should be left up to the people who formed the leadership - the independents. He avoided answering questions about whether he had spoken to the independents.
