The claws come out as three teams via for top spot

THREE teams are stamping their class on the Rockhampton Netball Association's Premier League.

In Pool 1, the two Brothers teams, Case and McHugh remain undefeated after scoring convincing wins over the Bluebirds' Brolgas and Jacanas respectively.

In Pool 2, the Bluebirds Herons are also unbeaten after easily accounting for the Saints. And watching over it all on Tuesday night was Capricorn Claws coach Katrina Witham, with trials for the State League team just a month away.

"I had a sticky beak, yes," Witham confirmed.

"The Premier League is a great way to identify young talent and I am definitely liking what I am seeing."

Witham will select her 12 player starting team at the end of November but will also build an extended train on squad for next season, so there are more opportunities for talented young netballers from the region to take the next step up.

"I am looking to build a bigger squad for next season because in 2017 Netball Queensland will introduce an under 17 State League division and we want to prepare for that."

Meanwhile, Bluebirds Herons coach Barb Ahmat is delighted with how her team are travelling.

"We are playing very well," Ahmat said.

"The team is full of young talent and we are going from strength to strength. The longer we play together the better we will get and we are looking forward to meeting the other undefeated teams.

"Our wing or goal defender Gemma Hancox and our goal attack Christina McLure travel in form Biloela to play. It is a big step up for both girls and they are relishing the challenge.

"There is strong shooting talent in Taylor Cox from Rocky.

"Also Rebecca Patterson is stepping into the goal defence and goal keeping role very nicely. She has been playing in a variety of positions and she is just now starting to specialise in a defensive role.

"The exciting thing is all these girls are just 15 and 16 so they have a bright future.

"They will trial for the Claws and I believe they have the ability to make it."
