The good money points to court’s new chief judge

ALL bets are on his honour Judge Paul Smith, of the Rockhampton District Court, to become the new chief judge of the District Court.

That's according to the predictions of popular News Limited columnist Peter Cameron.

Mr Cameron predicted Judge Smith succeeding the incumbent District Court chief judge, Patsy Wolfe.

Judge Smith, a successful former prosecutor, was "the frontrunner for months", according to Mr Cameron.

"He is unlikely to bring any judicial controversy to the Newman government, still licking its wounds after installing Justice Tim Carmody to head the Supreme Court," Mr Cameron said in his blog.

Judge Smith took up his role in Rockhampton in 2013.

The Morning Bulletin tried to contact Mr Smith about the comments but he was away in Brisbane.
