Opinion: The Rocky River Run is for everyone
FOR years I have enjoyed being involved with the Rocky River Run.
Some years I have been there taking photographs for The Morning Bulletin, enjoying the atmosphere as the crowd of runners took off at each of the starts, admiring the colourful costumes worn by some and impressed by the running ability in others.
When I haven't been taking photos, I have been an entrant myself, taking part with family and friends.
Every year I have loved seeing the variety of people running (or walking) in the event, from the serious athlete down to the very casual runne
r, like myself.
I especially love that it is a family-friendly event, with people pushing prams to running alongside their kids.
Reading the story of Kathryn Austin, who has this year been named as the first ever ambassador for the 2016 CTC Rocky River Run, is inspiring.
It was after taking part in the event she discovered a passion for the sport that has now taken her to run on international soil.
"I was not born to run, I just love to run," Kathryn said.
And that is something each of us can think about when it comes to entering the event on June 5.
You don't have to be a runner to run it.
There are a number of categories and distances to enter.
You can run with the whole family or make up a team of friends or co-workers.
Not only will you be helping raise money for youth mental health and suicide awareness but you will be getting out and about along the beautiful Fitzroy River, getting a bit of exercise and some fresh air as well as taking part in a fun community event.
Run Rocky, Run.
