SOAPBOX: The splatter factor grosses me out

I AM really not a fan of unisex toilets - the splatter factor bothers me.

Yes, it is crucial that we all have equal access to public toilets.

But this whole unisex public toilet thing actually grosses me out.

I know we are pretty lucky here on the Sunshine Coast as the public toilets are regularly cleaned and maintained to ensure good hygiene.

Three cheers for the staff who do that!

But still, if some bloke is standing aloft and spraying in that direction there is splatter - don't try and tell me otherwise boys, I'm a mother of men and the bathroom cleaner.

I've got down and dirty with our toilet bowl and bathroom walls regularly and there is - no matter how fabulous you all think you are - splatter.

I really feel quite sorry for those with little girls planning on using one of these modern wonders.

Sure, it's convenient that dad can take her to the toilet, hopefully he is strong enough to hold her aloft.

Now I ask, what happened to a good, old-fashioned toilet seat?

I'm sure they were often grubby too but it seems modern unisex toilet designers have forgotten about this.

While those of us who are older may have mastered the stand-above-and-hover method, little girls with little legs still have to sit.

And for those whose legs are no longer able to manage that delicate manoeuvre, they too sit.

Ok, I get the safety thing and the equal access thing, but I just don't get the hygiene thing. Yuck!
