Thief steals cash, hits the wall

A THIEF knocked a hole in the wall of a Rockhampton business to get through to another, but found the path blocked when trying a second time.

Two businesses in the Metro complex on the corner of High and Musgrave Sts were targeted on Sunday between 3.50pm and 4.10pm.

It was the second time in two weeks that Queensland Rural and QML Pathology had been broken into.

Regional crime co-ordinator Inspector Cal Lynch said the intruder had climbed a locked fence and used a jemmy to break through the rear door of the pathology business.

After entering the front room, the thief took a key and entered another room, opened the petty cash draw and stole a sum of money.

The thief then kicked a hole in the plasterboard wall and squeezed through into the adjacent business, Queensland rural where another sum of cash was taken.

But the thief failed to find a way into the next business, Metro Vision Hair and Beauty, after smashing hole in the plasterboard wall only to find a solid timber barrier behind it.

Queensland Rural office manager Jenny Webster said it was “frustrating” the business had been broken into twice in two weeks.

She said it was obvious the thief was looking for cash because nothing else was taken.

Police are continuing their investigations.
