Thieves on a crime spree

FIRST they took one of these fibreglass dogs, now thieves have knocked off a heavy water feature worth about $1000.

Bettascapes Landscape Centre was one of the businesses targeted during a crime spree of break-ins across Rockhampton at the weekend.

As well as businesses, thieves broke into cars and homes.

Ken Lyngkuist, who owns Bettascapes in Thozet Rd, is fed up with “low-lifes” wrecking their fence to get through to the business before stealing ornaments.

“We’re still struggling to recover from the flood and then this happens. This is the fourth time in the past two weeks,” Ken said.

He said they had captured some footage on the CCTV camera and police were investigating.

Acting Regional Crime co-ordinator Cal Lynch, said there were several break-and-enters at the weekend, with the majority of car break-ins involving unlocked cars.

At Lawrence Motors in Richardson Rd, a mechanic witnessed a white Mazda tip truck (pictured) being driven through a mesh fence after it was stolen from the yard just after 6am on Saturday. The truck was last seen heading north along Scott St.

In Berserker, two cars were reported broken into and a car radio, CD player and CDs were stolen, while on Charles St a 29-year-old was charged after attempting to steal a mobile phone from a business.

On Victoria Pde a driver’s licence, cosmetics, iPod and cash were stolen from two separate vehicles between 9pm Saturday and 1.30am Sunday. A 35-year-old was charged after being caught going through one of the cars.

Multiple items including an air compressor, power leads and tools were taken from the back of a ute at The Range, while in Kawana a licence and cash were stolen from a car in Alexandra St, Kawana. Thieves also broke into a home on Bolsover St and stole computer equipment, while damage was caused at Baden Powell St, Wandal. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
