AS stock from 17 Glenfords Discount Tool Centres across Australia is auctioned off for the collapsing chain store, Rockhampton's Glenfords will hammer on.

Owner of the Yaamba Rd tool shop Mike Kilpatrick said his store was the first Glenfords franchise "set up from scratch" and run independently, almost 21 years ago.

And now it will outlast the original stores in Brisbane.

The chain went into voluntary administration in December last year after work in the construction industry slowed dramatically.

Administrators Dominion Group, organised for goods from the nine Glenfords' chain stores in Queensland to be auctioned off over the next month.

But the independent stores using the name under licence agreements - in Rockhampton, Gladstone and Ipswich - will remain unaffected.

"Touch wood we won't have any rub-off from their problems," he said.

"They've really fell over, which is a real shame.

"But we seem to be keeping well ... it's only going to get better."

Sleep City and Everyday Living were also caught in the economic crunch.
