Tiger begins $38 flights Rocky to Brisbane

TIGER Airways will begin daily flights between Rockhampton and Brisbane on March 28 with fares on sale today from just $38.

The new low fare route announced by Tiger Airways today will be the first intrastate route for the budget airline.

Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director, Shelley Roberts, said the announcement by Australia’s newest major domestic airline was great news for Queenslanders.

“Earlier this month we announced we’d be flying to Brisbane from both Melbourne and Adelaide and today we’re thrilled to be providing Queenslanders with even more affordable travel options to travel not only interstate around Australia, but now also within the same State,” she said.

David Blackwell, Director Rockhampton Airport, welcomed the news as a significant benefit for the region.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Central Queensland and we are very pleased with Tiger's vote of confidence in our region,” he said.

Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor, Cr Brad Carter, said  it reflected the strong economic prospects of the region and was a vote of confidence in the council's "well-managed'' airport business.

The airport is a business unit of Rockhampton Regional Council.
