Time to pack an umbrella Banana Shire
IT IS A SIGHT for sore eyes across the region with rainfall and storm activity passing over the Banana Shire.
So far today the Bureau of Meteorology’s rainfall gauge at Thangool has recorded 9mm with steady rain falling throughout most of the afternoon.
Rosa Hoff from the Bureau of Meteorology said the bureau had a severe thunderstorm forecast likely from the Central Coast of Queensland down to the South Central areas.
“There is quite a lot of thunderstorm activity around Biloela and the surrounds at the moment, mostly further out to the west,” Ms Hoff said.
“The Biloela gauge has recorded just 2.6mm but our Blue Hills station southwest of Gladstone has recorded 36mm and other areas east of Biloela recording 30mm.
Despite just falling outside of the zone for a likely thunderstorm, Biloela and the surrounds are forecast to receive further rainfall across the weekend.
“The best chance of rainfall for Biloela is tomorrow and Saturday with a forecast of 15mm for the Biloela area at this stage,” Ms Hoff said.
“We are forecasting that there is a chance of a storm developing this afternoon and into the evening.”
Friday’s forecast for Biloela is a top of 32 degrees with an 80 per cent chance of showers and a chance for a thunderstorm.
Saturday’s forecast is similar with an 80 per cent chance of showers likely to occur in the morning and afternoon.
And heading into early next week, the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a 40 per cent chance of showers in the Biloela area this Sunday through to Tuesday.
