Tom Busby wins award for Commonwealth Games song

IT'S BEEN a winner of a week for Rocky singer, and one half of much loved duo Busby Marou, Tom Busby, who won an  Australian Performing Right Association (APRA) award last night in Sydney.

And the win comes just one day after his Busby Marou song Days of Gold was chosen as the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games mascot theme song.

The song Days of Gold, written by fellow Australian songwriter Phil Barton and Tom Busby won the Blues and Roots Work of the Year award.

Tom said it had been a big week.

"It is an amazing feeling to win our second APRA award, its been a big week for this track off the back of the Commonwealth Games sync," he said.

"Songwriting inspiration often comes from the most unlikely places, with that in mind I want to make special mention to a few mates who have been an inspiration to me.

"My old room mate and Rockhampton identity Brett Gibson, my cousin Brendan Busby who taught me how to play guitar and my manager Josh Jones."
