IT'S the combination of fear and excitement that sees Tony Murray jump out of planes on a regular basis.

After his first skydiving experience at 18 years of age he knew it was something that had been missing from his life.

It was only after 10 years of working in the mines, the Rockhampton man followed his passion to become a professional skydiver, after his first jump a decade ago.

Tony, 29, headed to New South Wales 18 months ago to obtain his skydiving licence.

From tandem jumps to competing in skydiving competitions, Tony says there's no better thrill than the adrenaline rush of free falling.

Now Tony wants to get more Central Queenslanders involved in the sport, with hopes of bringing a skydiving school to the region to help others obtain their skydiving licence.

Tony had to travel to NSW to complete his training and would like to see a skydiving school introduced in Capricornia.

"We used to have a school at Hedlow; that was about 10 years ago and there's been (no other schools) since," Tony said.

"It's beautiful here, you get to see all of Keppel (when you jump) and you get to land on the beach.

"We can land at any coastal beach but we mainly do Kinka (Beach) because the tide goes way out."

Between December 5 and 7, Tony is inviting those interested in having a jump and possibly wanting to pursue their licence, to come down and check it out.

Tony said the event was focused on people's first solo skydive, which may sound daunting, but there were instructors with you throughout the jump.

Skydive Capricorn owner Lloyd Cofield is hoping to see a good turnout for the event which could lead to more local qualified skydivers. Lloyd said he has all of the ratings and experience to oversee a skydive school in the region if it were to go ahead.
