Tools down under fire ban

RESIDENTS are reminded that a number of operations are suspended during a fire ban.

The Banana Shire is one of 42 local government areas under a statewide fire ban following a period of heightened fire conditions that is expected to continue this week.

On November 9 emergency services were notified by the Queensland Government that a State of Fire Emergency for Queensland had been declared under section 87 and 88 of the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990.

The Biloela Police would like to remind residents that, under this period of declaration, the following activities are prohibited: Welding, grinding, the use of oxy acetylene cutting or

heating, use of naked flames and other similar operations that can be a source of ignition when flammable material is present or can become a fire hazard regardless of the presence of flammable material.

The use of devices which incorporate a naked flame, and any other similar activities that can be a source of ignition when flammable material is present are prohibited as well.

Rural Fire Service Gladstone area-director Craig Magick said the fire ban, issued until tonight pending a review, meant that all hot works were to be avoided.

“All those activities that can speak fire, or relating to fire are banned,” Mr Magick said.

“People doing welding, grinding or flashing are unable to work during this time.”

Call triple-0 (000) immediately if you see a suspicious fire or are under threat.
