Talented teen breaks Middle Ridge record

SHE is only 14 but after setting the new Toowoomba Golf Club women's course record, Darcy Habgood has her sights set on breaking the 70 mark.

Habgood sank a three metre putt on the last hole on Saturday to card a one-under round of 72 at Middle Ridge to break the previous benchmark held by Leah Hart.

The prodigious talent, who is the daughter of club professional Paul Habgood, started her round on the 10th hole.

She birdied the 11th but was back to par with a bogey two holes later.

Habgood went back to one-under with a birdie on the par three 14th before a bogey on the 18th saw her finish even on the back nine.

She parred the opening four holes of the front nine before calmly slotting a long birdie putt on the tough par five fifth hole.

The one-marker then kept her cool to par the remaining holes to take over as women's course record holder at Middle Ridge.

Habgood is a player on the rise as she has also been selected in the state junior squad.
