Toowoomba man on 14 charges after alleged police assault

A TOOWOOMBA man accused of deliberately driving a stolen car into a police officer on motorbike is to take his case directly to the higher court.

Derek-John Alfred Sharpley, 29, was not present in Toowoomba Magistrates Court when his case was mentioned on Friday but his solicitor Joe McConnell said the matter would go by way of registry committal up to the district court.

The officer suffered a dislocated shoulder in the incident.

Sharpley has not been required to enter any pleas to 14 charges including serious assault of a police officer and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He remains in custody and the case adjourned until October.
