THIS year, Emily Martin decided it was her year to combine doing good things for herself as well as her community.

The St Ursula's College student leapt at the opportunity to take part in the Face of the Globe beauty pageant and part of the reason she decided to apply was the fundraising element.

"The Face of the Globe Australia competition is an international beauty pageant where teens and adults from all over Australia and other nations apply to compete in interview and beauty sections," she said.

"We are to raise money for the Rainbow Child Foundation as part of our Face of the Globe Australia journey, and I can't think of a more enjoyable and rewarding way to get involved with the local community.

"This year I decided that it was going to be my year for change.

"I wanted to endeavour to make change in myself as well as the community, so when the opportunity arose to apply I said to myself 'why not?'"

The fresh-faced teen said she had never competed in a beauty pageant of this magnitude before.

The grand finals for Australia will take place in August, with the four finalists offered the opportunity to attend the Grand Internationals in Paris 2016, where they will compete against girls from all over the world.

She said if she makes it through to the Paris round she looked forward to forming close relationships with her fellow global competitors.

A major component of the competition is the fundraising for the Rainbow Child Foundations, which strives to help children all over the world through the building of orphan homes, water play pumps, sanitation units and other important infrastructure.

"It would be an amazing to represent Toowoomba in the international finals if I make it," she said.

"People can donate to my charity by making digital donations via my GoFundMe page, and can also support me by liking my Facebook page and getting involved in charity events that I will be holding."
