Top theatre director to share insights at Walter Reid
ROCKHAMPTON'S own Helpmann Award-winning director Craig Ilott is returning home to hold a special master class this weekend with The Pilbeam Chorus.
Local chorus members have been busy rehearsing for OperaQ's upcoming production of La bohème at Pilbeam Theatre.
A multi award-winning theatre director whose shows have sold out around the world, Craig's master class will provide invaluable insight as chorus members prepare to tread the boards with OperaQ principal artists and QSO musicians.
A graduate of QUT and NIDA, Craig started his career in Sydney's independent theatre industry, founding his own company, Albedo Theatre, which created a number of award-winning productions including The Decameron, Dealer's Choice and Edmond.
WHEN: 1.30pm, Saturday, July 19.
WHERE: Walter Reid Cultural Centre (cnr Derby and East Sts).
Project Puccini is a world-first initiative by OperaQ, in collaboration with eight regional Queensland cities, which will give hundreds of everyday people the opportunity to perform in the chorus of a new, professionally staged production of La bohème.
Nothing to this scale has ever been attempted before.
The Project Puccini team will travel more than 21,000 kilometres over a six-month period from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Fraser Coast, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Mount Isa, and nearly 800 Queenslanders auditioned for 384 chorus roles.
