Touch stars to take on Kiwis
THE future of touch football in Central Queensland is in safe hands thanks to this group of up-and-coming local stars.
A strong CQ contingent has been selected in Queensland junior touch teams to play against New Zealand on the Gold Coast in November.
The region's top junior talent was picked to take on the Kiwis following the recent Queensland Junior Touch State Championships at Ipswich.
Josh Buchanan, Steven Donovan, Jonah Placid, Zac Bainbridge, Tom Kronk, Braydn Schulte and Tyran Stibbards were named in the Queensland under-14 boys' team, with Kale Stibbards selected as a shadow player. It was double celebration for the boys after taking out the under-14 state title in a thrilling final win over South Queensland.
Sharni Upton, Nyomi Webley and Sheradan Spark (shadow) gained selection in the Queensland under-14 girls' squad.
In the under-16 ranks, Addison McKenzie, Jessica Powell, James Baartz, Jack Williams and Jake Assay (shadow) side-stepped their way to state honours.
The Rocky junior touch competition is under way, with under-14s and under-16s hitting Cyril Connell Fields on Friday nights and under-6s, 8s, 10s and 12s in action on Saturday mornings.
