Tough test for McLeod at CQ Open against top golfers in comp

FORMER Central Queensland and Yeppoon junior golfer Jake McLeod will return to Yeppoon to compete in the 2014 Central Queensland Men's Open.

An ex-Queensland representative player, McLeod won the Central Queensland Men's Open in 2012 before taking the Yeppoon Men's Open last year.

However, he will have his work cut out in the 36-hole event at Yeppoon Golf Club this weekend with multiple Yeppoon open and closed champion Trevor Tougher and the in-form Capricorn Resort member Paul Matula expected to be prominent.

The field features Central Queensland's top golfers, including Daryl Myles, Moura's Dillon West, Rockhampton local Dean Bunt, Wowan weapon Chaise Pearce and Biloela bomber Dylan Parish.

The quintet will push for double points in the final event on the CQ men's Golfer of the Year calendar.

Following this weekend's event, the four top point-scorers will represent Central Queensland in a Golf Queensland Inter-Association teams event at Hervey Bay Golf Club next month.

Rockhampton golfer John Gunzler and Mt Morgan's Barry Stapleton are favourites for the B-grade Golfer of the Year honours while Doug Woofindin and David Johns are front runners to claim the C-grade title.
