Tourist boom time

WITH last summer's holiday season affected by floods and pouring rains, this year has seen both tourists and locals eagerly soaking up the sun on the Capricorn Coast like never before.

Although the Capricorn Coast was virtually unaffected by the 2011 floods, the national media attention on the inundation of Rockhampton and images of the Fitzroy River purging her undigested contents into Keppel Bay saw visitors staying away in droves.

This year the beautiful Capricorn Coast beaches have been full of swimmers making the most of the summer waves.

Freedom Fast Cats, Funtastic and Sailing with Grace have all been busy taking holiday makers out to enjoy the pristine waters of Keppel Bay.

Rod Taylor from Byfield General Store said this summer had been the best season it had experienced since buying the business.

He said visitors to the forest community were dropping in for lunch and to sample the store's popular old-fashioned milkshakes.

Wayne Goodman from The Causeway Lake Boat Hire said the lake had been a very popular destination for summer holiday-makers, with large groups taking out kayaks and paddle boats.
