Tourist suffers gunshot wounds on banks of rural creek

UPDATE: A man is in a critical condition after suffering gunshot wounds to his chest and arm in Chinchilla last night.

Detectives have set up two crime scenes after the 21-year-old from Mundubbera presented himself at the Chinchilla Hospital with injuries.

Police were called to the hospital about 7pm. Detectives spoke with the man and launched an investigation.

The man was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital overnight where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Two crime scenes were set up on Auburn Rd and Slesser St as part of the investigation, with police scouring bushland around where the man is believed to have been shot.

The Slesser St crime scene has since been cleared as investigations continue.

EARLIER: Police are investigating after a man was shot twice in an incident on the banks of a Western Downs creek overnight.

The man, believed to be a tourist to the area, presented himself to the Chinchilla Hospital with gunshot wounds to the arm and chest.

Initial investigations suggest the man was with another man at a local creek when he was shot at about 6.30pm.

The men are believed to be tourists in the area and were known to each other.

Detectives from the Dalby Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating.
