Town to be painted purple and yellow for Firebirds

FORMER Warwick junior netballers Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman and their Firebirds team-mates will be honoured with a Ticker Tape parade after their ANZ Championships victory.

The Brisbane CBD will come alive this Saturday June 27 with the tickertape parade and public celebration marking the victory.

After an epic 1-goal Grand Final win over the NSW Swifts 57-56 in a match that will go down in Queensland history as one of the best come-from-behind sporting finishes ever.

To celebrate this amazing feat, Brisbane will be splashed with purple and yellow, with the Firebirds leading fans and supporters through the streets of the CBD as part of a public celebration.

The parade will commence at 12:25pm on Saturday 27th June, and will proceed along Albert Street from King George Square, travel up Queen Street Mall, and finish at Redacliff Place with a special presentation by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk at 1:00pm.

Captain Laura Geitz said she could not think of a better way to share not just a Grand Final win but also an amazing season with the Firebirds loyal fans.

"Brisbane is a proud sporting city, and the Firebirds are a big part of that history now after Sunday and we can't wait to show off the trophy to our fans and share in this once in a lifetime moment," Geitz said.

"We want everyone out in purple lining the streets of the CBD this Saturday and cheer us on one more time this season like that amazing crowd did on Sunday at the Grand Final."

Firebirds fans will also have a chance to meet and greet with the 2015 Champions with a team signing session to follow the formalities and Geitz said this is something her teammates were looking forward to.

"We love meeting out fans and we know we did not get an opportunity to do that after the game on Sunday due to time restraints at the venue so we encourage everyone come out on Saturday and bring their posters and player cards for us to sign," Geitz said.
