Tracey buys into a quiet grocery shop
TRACEY Tapp drives to town twice a week to grocery shop and times it perfectly to avoid the crowds.
Tracey, who lives on a property at Wowan, grocery shops in Rockhampton every Monday and Friday and plans it around her gym class.
"We head to our gym classes those days too, so it works out well," she said yesterday as she pushed her trolley around Woolies at Allenstown.
Tracey also makes sure she's not at the shops when school's out, as the store and car parks become crowded.
But it seems most of us leave the shopping for the busiest day, which is Saturday, according to Roy Morgan Research.
More than 14% of grocery shoppers flock to supermarkets on Saturday, almost triple the amount of people who shop on a Monday. More than half of grocery shoppers (51.2%) keep their main grocery shopping to a specific day of the week, while 43.4% of shoppers don't have a regular shopping day.
The research shows under-25s are more likely to do their main grocery shop on Sunday and those over 65 keep their shop until Thursday.
Tracey said if she lived in town she would make her trips to the supermarket at night, when the crowds were gone and the parking lot wasn't chaotic.
"We know shopping is a bit of a task, but we make the trip into town worth it," she said.
Tracey said they needed to plan their shopping days, as they only had access to a service station at Wowan which stocks the essentials like milk and bread.
