Resident says rubbish and recycling tipped into same truck

WHEN it comes to recycling, you don't get many more dutiful than Granville pensioner Max Deacon.

Day-in and day-out, he carefully sorts anything recyclable from his household waste, and he never forgets to have his bins out in time for the Wednesday morning rubbish collection.

So you can imagine his annoyance with the Fraser Coast Regional Council after having his waste and recycling tipped into a waste collection truck twice in the past month.

"It defeats the purpose of people trying to help the council," he said.

"Why waste the time salvaging things?"

Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the trucks used on the Wednesday run past Mr Deacon's house were labelled collection and could be used for recycle or waste.

However, Mr Deacon said he had once seen both bins tipped into the one truck.

On another day there was only one set of tyre tracks beside the empty bins.

"Ever since the new contractor has taken over I've had problems," he said.

"Quite often they'll miss my bin."

Cr O'Connell denied that recycling and waste were put in the same truck at the same time.

Recycling tips

  • Never bag recycling or put it in a box
  • Always place items loose in the bin
  • Rinse recyclable containers with water
  • Take lids off bottles and jars
