Trawler refuses to budge off beach as mystery of sea deepens

ALL Hervey Bay's Richard Hall wanted over the weekend was to go home.

Instead he braved torrential Capricorn Coast conditions to look for the fishing trawler he worked on, which mysteriously ended up at Farnborough beach, 200km south of Big Dune.

A 435km trip by road brought him to Yeppoon on Friday.

He found the 13m-long trawler Rosella all washed up, and a little bit battered.

How the vessel got to Farnborough Beach is still a mystery.

When The Morning Bulletin spoke to Mr Hill, it wasn't clear whether the boat drifted up the Queensland Coast after its moorings broke, or the vessel was stolen and run aground.

Mr Hill made two attempts to pull the boat off the beach but was unsuccessful.

The boat's captain tried to get earth movers in to help get the boat afloat.

If readers have any information that can shed light on this mystery about how this boat got to Farnborough Beach, call Police Link on 131444.
