READERS DISCUSS: Push by govt for job incentives in Rocky
REGIONAL Queensland is first on the list for employment overhauls with Treasurer Curtis Pitt pushing for government departments to be based out of centres like Rockhampton.
Jill Bowles: The government has to stop concentrating on SE Qld, there is other places that make up Qld, not just Brisbane and the Gold Coast
Joanne Coulter: Well, unless there is long term projects allowed to proceed within private enterprise you can recycle the training, the employment schemes as much as you like but there will not be the uptake of employment that we need to get this area off the ground. Over the years we have decentralised our services and products with Central Qld to the point that business in Rockhampton has downsized and also the clientele pool has also reduced considerably. But Rocky and Cap Coast can step up to the plate and have a very vibrant Tourism industry if only Qld Labor would give private enterprise the opportunity and it would not cost them a cent. The Capricorn International would be back up to full capacity again. Those of us who were around in 80's know what it was like and have seen the changes and know what needs to be done.
Morgan McIntyre: Dead right.
Bradley Jensen: Yer get dole bludgers to work.
Evelin Macaskill: Start by getting rid of the stupid work visas, and second, give the contracts to local companies who employ locals instead of the companies who come from Gold Coast, NSW etc and they bring their own workers.
Gerard Mapes: With another global economic crisis on our hands and mining giants laying off thousands a few government jobs will not ease the pain for anyone.
Malcolm Howie: People are being taken off the disability pension and put on the dole. Now they are talking about the parenting allowance. Where do they go? Newstart.
Daniel Wickham: Haha, wonder which 457 visa worker gets the job.
