Trio on track for state title

ROCKHAMPTON'S Ebony O'Brien, Demi Roser and Alexandra Richards are three wins away from a state title.

The trio helped Capricornia into a commanding position after day two of the Queensland Primary Schools under-12 hockey titles in Mackay.

Capricornia finished the first of three day's play in perfect style on Wednesday, winning all three of their matches with O'Brien, Roser and Richards the Rockhampton players in the team.

Despite only having the one training run together, the reigning state champions started where they left off in 2010, defeating North Queensland 5-1, before registering wins against South Coast (2-0) and Darling Downs (3-0) on the first day of the titles.

The Capricornia team, which is made up of five players from Port Curtis, six from Mackay and the three Rocky girls, defeated Metropolitan East 3-1 on day two before drawing 0-0 with Metropolitan West later in the day.

O'Brien, Roser and Richards lead their Capricornia team into battle today against Sunshine Coast, Peninsula and the undefeated Wide Bay before the final selection trial later this afternoon.

The young girls hope to be selected in the Queensland under-12 schoolgirls' team to contest the national titles later in the year.
