A 15-YEAR-OLD female passenger died after a three-vehicle crash on the Bruce Hwy yesterday around midday, 30km south of Rockhampton.
Two cars and a truck were involved in the accident and it is believed the green sedan, travelling south, lost control trying to overtake the truck on double white lines.
One of the first rescue workers on the scene described it as a "shocker".
Central regional acting regional traffic inspector Steve Hall confirmed the 15-year-old, who was airlifted by RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue to Rockhampton Hospital, had died late yesterday afternoon.
Insp Hall said all four people in the green sedan were from Marmor.
"Very early indications is that the truck is not at fault," he said.
A Queensland Police Media spokeswoman said initial investigations indicated the first vehicle (green sedan) collided with the front end of the second vehicle (Rav 4) before spinning back into the southbound lane and colliding with the side of the truck.
She said the green sedan then travelled back across the highway, resting on the grass beside the northbound lane.
The spokeswoman said in the green sedan was a 23-year-old male driver who was not injured, a 43-year-old female with significant injuries, a 17-year-old injured male and the 15-year-old deceased.
She said a 29-year-old woman was driving the Rav 4 and had a 34-year-old male passenger. Both had minor injuries.
The 30-year-old male truck driver was uninjured.
A Department of Community Services spokesman said ambulances transported five patients (from the Rav 4 and green sedan) by road to the Rockhampton Hospital with three in a serious condition and two stable with various injuries.
He said there were two female passengers trapped in the green vehicle - one was conscious and the other unconscious when ambulance officers arrived on scene.
The spokesman said two males had fractures.
All five were in a stable condition in Rockhampton Hospital yesterday afternoon.
