Truck crashes into Lionleigh pub and rips awning out of wall

A TRUCK has crashed into an awning on the Lionleigh hotel and ripped it of the wall and caused it to fall on the footpath.

The accident happened about an hour-and-a-half ago and police and Rockhampton Regional Council have diverted traffic away from the area for safety while it is cleaned.

Police are still investigating as whether the truck crashed into the awning or reversed into while making a turn and ripped it apart.

Police said it was lucky there was no one walking along the footpath at the time and because the High School is nearby police said "safety first" was being exercised and hence the diversion and the closing of the footpath.
