Truckie hurt in highway crash

A 27-YEAR-OLD truck driver sustained internal injuries and possible spinal damage after his truck rolled on the Bruce Highway, 50km south of Sarina, this morning.

At 4am the truck veered off the road, crashed into a guard rail and rolled on to its roof before coming to a stop on a bridge.

It’s believed the crash was so severe the man’s mobile phone was found embedded in the guard rail.

The man was treated at the scene for lacerations to his head, a fractured right arm, internal injuries, possible spinal injuries and there was concern he had a head injury.

The RACQ - CQ RESCUE crew were called to the scene.

CQ RESCUE air crewman Darren Bobin said it appeared the guard rail stopped the truck from ending up in the creek.

“So he was quite lucky in that respect. The driver of the truck managed to extricate himself from the vehicle and was conscious when we arrived.”

CQ RESCUE transported the man, from Brisbane, to Mackay Base Hospital at 6am.

The highway was blocked for several hours while the accident scene was cleared.
