Trucks in highway smash

A TRUCK crash outside Moura on the Dawson Highway about 2pm, 200km south-west of Rockhampton, has caused three tonnes of a powder used in explosives and fertilizers to spill onto the road.

Two trucks collided and the vehicle carrying ammonia nitrate powder rolled over.

A 2km exclusion zone has been set up by emergency services.

Police said there was no imminent threat of an explosion as no fuel had spilled onto the highway to ignite the powder.

They said the road would be closed for between three and five hours to clean up the ammonia nitrate.

A traffic detour has been set up along the Gibihi Highway and the Baralaba – Theodore Rd.

Roads are closed at the intersection of the Dawson Highway and the Leichardt Highway, and on the Dawson Highway just outside the Moura mine.

Police said no-one was injured in the crash.
