TV farmer cast-offs find love
ROCKHAMPTON'S Andrew “Gilly” Gill was chasing farmer Jenny to be his wife.
Brisbane beauty Cass Skapin had her eyes on farmer Ralf.
They didn't find love on this year's hit TV reality series, The Farmer Wants a Wife, but they found each other at a cast reunion in February.
And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
“As soon as I saw Gilly at the airport (in Melbourne for the reunion) I got a bit nervous and it was obvious that we were flirting from the word go,” Cass said.
The down-to-earth beauties, who met up to share their story with The Morning Bulletin last week, hit it off at the airport bar and knew it was more then just a friendship after spending two nights together.
“It was love at first sight for me,” Cass said.
Gilly said as soon as he caught the eye of his new blonde, there was no need to look further.
“She's a bit of a hottie,” he said as he looked at his new girl.
The pair started a long-distance relationship before Cass, who now works at the Capricornia Division of General Practice in Rockhampton, packed up her bags and left Brisbane with her poodle Bella to start a new life in the Beef Capital.
During the 2009 series of The Farmer Wants a Wife, Cass was chasing after farmer Ralf, while Gilly was looking to steal the heart of the stunning blonde, farmer Jenny.
“I was kicked off the show after the five-minute speed dating with farmer Ralf,” Cass, 28, said with a laugh.
Gilly, who works as a site supervisor at a Blackwater explosives company during the week, said they had big plans to escape to the desert for a trip together next year.
“We both love the country and would like to experience the desert together,” the 35-year-old said.
According to Cass - and with an assuring chuckle from Gilly - starting a family is certainly a must down the track.
After experiencing what it's like to be in front of the camera, although Gilly doesn't have a reason to star on a show like The Farmer Wants a Wife again, he joked about waiting for a call from the Getaway crew.
