Twins take on triathlon

LIAM and Jacqui Smith are out to impress this weekend with Central Queensland secondary school representative triathlon team selectors' eyes peeled for potential talent.

The Rockhampton twins will unite with triathletes from across the region at Mercure Capricorn Resort on Sunday as round two of the Frenchville Frogs Triathlon Boyne Smelter race series gets underway.

With the race to be used for CQ team selection for the Triathlon Queensland All Schools competition which gets underway at the Sunshine Coast on November nine, the Smith duo will look to back up their superb round one performances.

The first round of competition saw 16-year-old Liam lead the way in the men's long course triathlon event to take the win by seven minutes ahead of Matthew Hayes.

Liam's sister Jacqui performed just as well and dominated the women's long course triathlon event to clinch a two minute victory over a second placed Victoria Gillies.

Tomorrow's triathlon event will offer long, short and team triathlon events, long and short duathlon races, a biathlon and a five kilometre run event.

Competitors racing for the first time this season are asked to head to the Frenchville Frogs Triathlon website and register before the race as well as fill out a membership form to avoid delays on race day.
