High speed two-car crash on Bruce Highway

TWO cars have crashed at high speed on the Bruce Highway in Townsville.

Multiple emergency services are converging on the scene to assist the injured.

The crash took place at the intersection of Veales Road and Bruce Highway about 7.30am today.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said one person was trapped in a vehicle and firefighters were working to extricate them.

There is only one lane open in both directions of the highway and emergency services are directing traffic.

It's understood a woman is injured after a vehicle collided with the driver side door of her vehicle.

The crash was described as being at "high speed."
