Two charged over armed robberies

TWO men have been charged following an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery in Rockhampton on the weekend.

Detectives from the Rockhampton Criminal Investigation Branch investigating the armed robbery of a Berserker tavern and the attempted armed robbery of a Park Avenue, North Rockhampton hotel yesterday charged two men.

It will be alleged that at around 11.45pm on March 17 two men entered a Main Street, Park Avenue hotel armed with a rifle and attempted to gain entry to a locked counter before being disturbed by a patron.

One of the men allegedly fired a shot into the floor of the premises before both fled empty handed.

Around 12.20am the following morning two men entered a Dean Street, Berserker licensed venue and allegedly threatened an employee with a rifle before fleeing with a sum of cash.

No one was physically injured during either incident.

Two Kawana men, aged 28 and 26, have been remanded in custody and are due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today charged with armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
