Two escape as car strikes horse

A POLICE officer checks to see if a horse that had been struck by a vehicle in Emu Park Road outside Rockhampton is still alive.

The accident, at about 8.30pm on Wednesday evening, is the latest in a series involving livestock on rural roads in recent weeks.

The road was closed for a short time near the intersection with St Christopher's Chapel Rd while the carcass was removed.

An ambulance crew treated two people at the scene and transported one patient to hospital in Rockhampton for observation.

Injuries were considered to be light and the occupants of the vehicle were lucky to escape without serious harm.
