Men attacked with sledgehammer, gun, knife in home invasion

TWO men were hospitalised when they were attacked with a sledgehammer, shotgun and a knife in their Billinudgel home on Saturday night.

A fight erupted at the Wilfred Street home after two heavily armed men wearing balaclavas entered the home, police said.

During the fight, a 42-year-old man sustained a deep cut to his back while the other man, aged 35, sustained a cut to his head.

The intruders ran from the house and were last seen being driven away by a third man in a white Toyota Hilux utility at roughly 11.45pm.

The injured men sought help from staff at a hotel nearby, before police and NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.

The older man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital then transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment of his back wound.

The younger man was treated at Tweed Heads Hospital for his head injury before being released yesterday.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command detectives have been investigating and have spoken to both men, but haven't released any details on what motivated the home invasion.

Police from the LAC are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the event or seen the vehicle to get in touch with them or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
