A man and woman are being transported to Mackay Base Hospital with burns after a gas bottle explosion.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the RACQ-CQ Rescue helicopter was on its way to pick up a man and a woman, both aged 25, from the Notch Point campground, near Ilbilbie, south of Mackay.

Both had partial thickness burns to their arms, she said, and the woman also had burns to her face. The severity of their injuries is not known.

A Mackay police spokesman said unconfirmed reports indicated a gas cylinder had exploded.

Police are on their way to the campground.
