Two Maryborough fishermen fined for illegal nets

TWO fishermen from Maryborough have been fined for the possession of eight illegal commercial fishing nets.

Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol (QBFP) in Hervey Bay located and recovered an illegal net set in Big Tuan Creek.

Following that discovery and execution of search warrants, two Maryborough fishermen were fined for having eight fishing nets without a licence.

All nets were seized and they were fined $4712.

A spokeswoman from Queensland Fisheries Queensland said it was unlawful for a person to buy, sell, possess or use commercial fishing apparatus without an appropriate licence.

The investigation into the incident started in November.

It was made public by Queensland Fisheries on January 13.
