Parking inspectors target Australia Day celebration hot spots

AUSTRALIA Day disappointment is running high for some as reports of parking inspectors targeting celebration hotspots emerge.

Jason Dahler took to social media to warn the community and express his frustration, after spotting hi-vis clad parking inspectors targeting cars in one of the Coast's most popular Australia Day destinations.

Mr Dahler said he'd just dropped his children off at Mooloolaba Spit this morning when he spotted the parking blitz.

He said the Spit was "packed" and parking was "non existent" as thousands flocked to the beachside to enjoy the day.

Mr Dahler said parking inspectors were working Parkyn Parade, marking tyres.

"Today of all days. Families are going to get back to their cars to find a fine," he wrote, slamming what he said was greedy, revenue raising.

State laws prohibit vehicles parking on verges and nature strips, including formed footpaths and grass verges, to ensure safe passage for pedestrians and the preservation of infrastructure within the verge.

Many areas of the Coast have timed parking while Caloundra has paid parking meters and more are tipped to roll out around the region.

The Caloundra parking meters are turned off over the Christmas period.

In December Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson confirmed the council would review its parking fine policies after mass outrage around the community following a string of fines issued for cars parked in their own driveways and tradies fined working in new estates.
