USQ scholarships for Y12 students
APPLICATIONS are open for a wide range of University of Southern Queensland (USQ) scholarships for Year 12 high school students.
USQ Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Jan Thomas said the University was offering 50 scholarships specifically to Year 12 students completing high school in 2016.
Forty $12,000 Vice-Chancellor's Principal's Recommendation Scholarships will be awarded to high achieving students.
This scholarship is linked with a principal's recommendation, providing eligible students the bonus of a guaranteed place at USQ.
USQ is also offering 10 Future Community Leader Scholarships for students commencing full-time study. These scholarships are offered in recognition of students' participation in the community and to provide maximum opportunity for students to start tertiary study at one of USQ's campuses.
"The final year of high school study can be a stressful time and it would be a great comfort for students to finish school knowing that they would have help with costs of university," Professor Thomas said.
"The money received helps students manage university costs and reduce the pressure some may face to find jobs while studying.
"Scholarships and bursaries can assist in a variety of ways, including paying student fees; continuing financial support; and some pay for textbooks or residential college fees."
Both Early Round Scholarships close tomorrow (August 26). Students will be notified in October. After this date other USQ Scholarships will open.
Professor Thomas said the University was proud to offer more than 70 scholarship categories overall to not only acknowledge high academic achievement, but success in a variety of areas.
"When some people hear 'scholarship' they immediately only think 'outstanding academic achievement' or OP1s and incorrectly assume scholarships aren't for them," she said.
