READER'S VIEW: Vegan view of violence against animals

BUTCHER Peter Boodle talks about meat in a purely "technical" manner and believes the industry will be "alright" despite reports by WHO that processed meats cause cancer, (No bacon backlash for Boodle, 30/10).

Eighteen year old Daniel Mackenzie, on the other hand, sees meat for what it really is - the body of a living being who has been forced to endure a life of torture simply to satisfy our taste for flesh. (Daniel's big beef with the meat industry, 30/10 )

Unlike Daniel, I didn't "see the light" and eliminate meat from my diet until I was 32 years of age. It was another two years before I recognized the even greater cruelty inherent in the egg and dairy industries and eliminated those products from my diet too. I have been a vegan for the last 35 years.

Please open your eyes to the cruelty and violence that is "part and parcel" of all meat, milk and egg production.

The animals we so casually and callously kill for nothing but momentary tastebud pleasure don't want to die any more than we do and nor do they deserve to.
